The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris ended last Sunday (11/08). It was a fantastic show with great athletes from all over the world. These people fought for their countries and Brazil tried to do his job. It was a story of superation, discipline, focus, patriotism, where their work gave them an honor medal.

In Paris, Brazil ranked 20th in the medals table, with three gold, seven silver and ten bronze medals. The women's participation in the olympic games was very important, if it wasn't for them, the country wouldn't get any gold. They got three and changed the scoreboard, benefiting all the group in France this year.

This olympic games was marked by gender equality with the same number of masculine and feminine athletes competing. Brazil did even better, the country put more women than men, 163 - 126 precisely, showing the world the importance of such matters, that they are equals and deserve the same rights.

There wasn't any government program to put more women in the olympic games, they got there because of their hard work, and had a better performance in the competitions which gave the place for the Olympic Game in Paris. This means that they confirm their potential, and contribute to Brazilian sports and society.

Brazilian medals in the Olympic Games

With 20 medals in the 2024 Olympic Games, this was considered the second best campaign of Brazil, losing only to the Games in Tokyo in 2020, when the country delegation got 21 medals. The female athletes got more than the masculine sports team. This never happened before, a change set for Brazil and the world.

The winning modalites were artistic gymnastics, and judo, with four medals each, including gold for Beatriz Souza and Rebeca Andrade. The third gold medal was for beach volleyball, with Ana Patrícia and Duda. This Olympic Games brought an unprecedented achievement, with the silver medal for race walking (Caio Bonfim).

In relation to team sports, Brazil won a silver medal in feminine soccer. They didn't get in the finals in 16 years and conquered a great achievement. The group of feminine volleyball team stood out also and got a bronze medal in 2024. Isaquias Queiroz got a silver medal in speed canoeing, in the C1 1000m, a great athlete.

In addition, Alison Santos, also known as Piu, got into the semifinals of the 400 meters without barriers and conquered the bronze medal repeating the same results of the Toquo Olympic games four years ago. Brazil also got two silver medals in surf, with Gabriel Medina and Tatiana Weston-Webb, making history in Paris.

Other medals

Another new modality which surprised everyone in Paris, Skate, brought two medals for Brazil this year. On the female street, Rayssa Leal won the bronze medal. She became the youngest athlete of all times to conquer two different medals in two olympic games, after the silver one in Toquio. Augusto Akio got a bronze medal.

This year Brazil won only one medal in Boxe. Bia Ferreira was favorite to win the gold medal, but was defeated in the semi finals by the irish Kellie Harrington. She ended up with the bronze medal, and became the biggest medalist on her modalite. In taekwondo Edival Pontes also got a bronze medal in Paris.

Stephen Hawking was a físic, theorist, cosmologist, and an english writer. According to his theory, the black holes in space usually leak thermal radiation which can make it evaporate and explode after a period of time. Until now this was a concept that was never really proved, but researchers found a way to change that.

At first, Hawkins hypothesis was developed 50 years ago and has not been proved yet. This is because supermassive black holes take billions of years to evaporate completely. The solution to this problem is to observe black holes with just millions of tons, or to analyze some of its pieces in space. The researchers did that.

During the study, the scientists suggested that when giant black holes collide on a catastrophic phenomenon, small, in fact, with minimum size and hot, pieces of black holes, can be launched in space. The researchers are excited because this is the chance to prove Hawking's theory that they are evaporating from the radiation.

Hawking's hypothesis was published in 1974 in Nature Magazine. He wrote a letter considering the implications of quantum physics on the black hole formation. In his study he also presented general relativity, which means he united two theories in one. Researchers thought in the past that they wouldn't combine.

Pieces of a Black Hole

The scientists suggested in their studies that, the smaller the black hole, the evaporation goes faster, and the supermassive with millions or billions of dollar masses, take more time to leak completely, more than the universe will last. Most black holes cannot emit thermal radiation, or they can't be detected.

It's important to say that the bigger the object, the colder it is. The heaviest black holes are colder than the cosmic radiation in the background, and, according to the second law of thermodynamics, the heat can't escape from a colder place to a hotter one. So, the smallests black holes enter the scene, with asteroid masses.

They are called “Bocconcini di Buchi Neri”. If the study is right, in the formation of these small objects during a black hole collision with supermasses, it will be easier to detect Hawking's radiation. According to Giacomo Cacciapaglia, a researcher, they are hotter and evaporate faster than usual.   

Only one kind of black hole can emit Hawking's radiation, the lighter ones. The study proposes that this kind of object can be produced and ejected during a black hole fusion, and start to irradiate right after their creation. A large number of black hole pieces would be produced close to the place where the fusion happened.

It is estimated that these little objects would emit Hawking's radiation each time faster, speeding towards its end. A black hole with 20 tons of mass would take around 16 years to evaporate completely. They are too small to be observed closely, so the researchers are looking in places where the gamma ray explosions could happen closer to regions where a black hole fusion was detected.
